St. Anne’s parkrun – Run Report Event #160 – 10/12/2016

Saturday, 10th of December saw the 160th staging of St. Anne’s parkrun. My day started with a bang when I arrived down to the park to set up the finish funnel only to notice that I had a rear tyre puncture. Thoughts of spending my post-parkrun time attempting to remedy same were thankfully banished by two able volunteers – Dylan Evenden and Simon Diab, who stepped up to save the day for me and allow me to get on with what I do best… run direct.

As usual, big thanks to all the volunteers, without whom we would not be able to stage such a magnificent event.

We had 202 participants on the day, with Niamh Donnellan running her 50th event - well done Niamh!

As we start to bring 2016 to a close, we look forward to a bumper parkrun program over the festive period:

  • Christmas Eve parkrun, 9:30 am, Saturday 24th December
  • New Year’s Eve parkrun, 9:30 am, Saturday 31st December
  • New Year’s Day parkrun (St. Anne’s), 9:30 am, Sunday 1st January
  • New Year’s Day parkrun #2 (Fr. Collins – c.5km away from St. Anne’s), 11am, Sunday 1st January

New Year’s Day is the only day where (a) you can run and get credit for two parkruns and (b) we have a degree of control over what time we stage the runs at – thereby facilitating two runs. Why not do the double? Or the triple, including NY Eve?

All events will go ahead subject to safe conditions and sufficient volunteers – please help out if you can – keep an eye on our facebook page for further details and announcements. Note we have no vehicular access to the park on those days so direction arrows and other infrastructure etc. are likely to be kept to a minimum.

Finally, it gives me great pleasure to pass on the news that St. Anne’s junior parkrun (2km, 4-14 year olds) will be starting on Sunday, 5th February, 2017 at 9:30am. Follow St. Anne’s junior parkrun on facebook for further information.

St. Annes’s parkrunner of the month April 2016

parkrun pic
Name: Conor Cassidy
Club: None
Age: 17
Home parkrun: St. Anne's
Occupation: 5th year student
Number of runs: 57
Favourite volunteer role: I enjoy barcode scanning as you get to see all of the runners come in and it's (relatively) stress free!
What do you do at parkrun: I usually get to the park at around 9:20. I run around for a bit and pretend that I know how to warm up properly! I listen to the briefing and then I get ready for the 2 laps of pain!
How has parkrun changed your running?: I never ran before I started parkrun. In Transition Year one of my teachers suggested that I do parkrun for the physical challenge part of my Gaisce award. I managed to do the 26 weeks required and I have kept it up since. I now run a few times a week and have even done a few 10ks.
What do you like about parkrun?: I love the community that exists around the whole event. It's also great to see your progress each week and to compare yourself against other regulars. But the best part is that it's all free!
Most memorable or funniest parkrun moment?: I busted my gut one Saturday morning and came in just ahead of a certain female parkrunner who had beaten me every previous week. I thought I was great until seconds after crossing the line I heard her say that she 'found that one tough' because she was 5 months pregnant. That put me back in my box!

St. Anne’s parkrun – Run Report – Event #126 – 9th April 2016

Event Number 126 was the first on the new course at St. Anne's. Due to building works which will be ongoing for c. 6 months, we have had to change our course. Happily, due to having such a large resource on our doorstep, we were able to find an alternative route without resorting to out-and-backs etc., and still maintaining a fair, interesting route through the park. The feedback we got was overwhelmingly positive, runners enjoying the views over Dublin Bay, before enduring the push back up towards the playground on each lap.

Firstly a big thanks to our volunteers this week, who handled the change of circumstances professionally and without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, two volunteers who were on the roster just didnt bother to show up on Saturday - no notice or anything. It left us short on marshals and scanners.

St. Anne’s parkrun #116 – Run Report

The 16th January marked our biggest ever attendance at St. Anne's parkrun, but this was topped a week later on 23rd January as a whopping 486 participants completed the 5k course, the second highest in Dublin and third highest in Ireland on the day. It was a pleasure to welcome a number of newcomers to the parkrun, some spurred on by Operation Transformation, others by January motivation and others coming along to see just how awesome St. Anne's parkrun is.

Adrienne Atkins, one of our regular participants and volunteers was 98th person home on Saturday. She accepted the giant token with grace and delight. Congratulations to Richard O'Driscoll who celebrated his 70th birthday with his family - both his immediate family and his parkrun family - on Saturday morning.

We'll be back again on Saturday, where Gillian Kenny will be Run Director. Don't forget to register online here: http://www.parkrun.ie/register/ and print off and bring along your barcode on Saturday.

And as everyone knows, parkrun is run each week entirely by your fellow runners who take turns volunteering to ensure we have a fantastic event with marshals, time keepers, scanners and barcode wranglers and more. If you haven’t volunteered lately, please reach out to us at stanneshelpers@parkrun.com and let us know which week would be good for you. Volunteering takes less than an hour of your time and parkrun can’t happen without you! http://www.parkrun.ie/stannes/futureroster/
