St Anne’s parkrun # 292 – 27/07/2019 Run Report

Well the first thing that went our way was the weather.

This was the 3rd time that we had a Raheny Shamrock "takeover" day and after the deluge that hit us last year, it was great to see the sunshine this year. The main purpose of the takeover is that all the volunteers are provided by our local athletics club, Raheny Shamrock AC and the regular volunteers get to take the day off and maybe get a run in themselves.  parkrun is very much a volunteer event and can be a little harder to resource during the holiday period.

As such it was great to be able to turn up on Saturday morning knowing that there were over 50 volunteers to arrive before 9:15 in the morning.

While it was the 3rd day in conjunction with the Shamrocks, there was a slightly sombre tone. It was the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Johnny Fennel, a runner who would be well known to most of the Shamrocks and someone who was regularly involved in parkrun. With this as a backdrop there were a number of things that magically happened on the day. 476 people participated in the run, an incredible 93 earned PBs on the day, including fellow RD Colm O'Toole, everyone was silent of the briefing (which was a first) but more amazingly no-one headed to the start line before the briefing was finished. Hopefully the briefing left everyone with a couple of thoughts - enjoy life and your running and remember those that have passed on for the things that they enjoyed. Remember them when they were happy.

We had a number of people celebrating their 50th parkrun - Fran O'Reilly, Raimunda Vasconcelos Siqueira, Eve Horgan and Tom O'Regan. Congratulations to you all.

We had visitors from across the globe, Ray  from Cairns, Peter, Julie, Chloe and Sophie Hartley Green who visited from Swansea, Steven Swan from Bristol, Brian Moore from Hampshire plus a sprinkling from other parkruns in Ireland. We hope you all enjoyed your run in St. Annes and look forward to your return.

Micheael Lindon grabbed the coveted #98 token and the prize that went with it.

Speaking of prizes, we had a large number of spot prizes donated to us for the day and our great thanks go to those who donated. Thank you to Pat Hooper, Christy Reilly, Val Hand, Brian Kelly and Nora Byrne from the Shamrocks, Sean Reid from Ignite Gym, Connor Jennings from Zurich Insurance and Helen Carr from The O'Brien Press. Congratulations to all those who went home with these prizes, a nice treat for a Saturday morning. As if parkrun wasn't treat enough.

AND it was pacer Saturday too, which probably helped the PBs that were hard earned.

As always, it was a pleasure to be your Run Director for the day. I really enjoyed myself and I hope you did too. I couldn't have done it without the team of volunteers I had helping me so a massive thank you to them.

See you all, same time, same place on 3rd August.

Keep running

Richie
