St. Anne’s parkrun – Event #106

Rain was promised for November 14th parkrun and unfortunately delivered on that promise. It was a wet morning but that did not deter the 170 runners who made it to St. Annes for their weekly fix of parkrun, or the run director who was quite happy under his umbrella.

We welcomed the Forget the Gym running chicks and the Irish Life 5k graduation runners. And the Evening Herald were there to capture the spirit and magic of parkrun. Get a copy of Monday's paper for the article. We will also post to the facebook page.

We had visitors from Hastings, Wimbledon and London who were very welcome with one of the Wimbledon runners making St. Annes his 84th different parkrun, an amazing achievement in itself. It is great to hear parkrun tourists loving the park and getting a new pb too.

A massive thank you to the volunteers who braved the rain to allow the run take place, we would be lost without them. For those of you who have not experienced the joy of volunteering please step forward as it is your run and we are all responsible for keeping it going.

Thank you all for your understanding with regard to the results. They may not have been up to our normal speed but it was an issue beyond our control.

See you all next Saturday, 9.20 at the finish area for the briefing. Good news, good weather is expected, so get out and volunteer or run, just be there.

Richie (Run Director)

St. Anne’s parkrun Run Report #78 – 25/4/2015

In stark contrast to the previous week (and most days since) it was a miserable morning weather-wise for parkrun number 78. However this did not stop 245 parkrunners and 16 volunteers from making sure St. Annes parkrun continued to be a terrific community event.
Our field were led home by Finbar O'Grady (after quite a battle with Wesley O'Brien) and Helen Carr was our first lady across the line. The coveted number 98 position was claimed by first timer Sven Wasmer, although the idiot Run Director never got around to taking his picture....sorry Sven!!

St. Annes parkrun COULD NOT and WOULD NOT happen without our excellent volunteers who give up their time every Saturday morning to make the event possible. This weeks heroes were:

Anne MC COMISH • Ciara MALONE • Connor JENNINGS • Declan O RIORDAN • Emma FEEHAN • John O'CONNOR • Mark GILLERAN • Mary OONAN • Noel CULLEN • Ollie POWER • Peter KILMARTIN • Richard O'CONNOR • Stella KUIT • Susan HOLMGREN • Úna NÍ CHRIBÍN • Valerie HAND

If you enjoy parkrun, and wish to see it continue, if you were to volunteer just a few times every year then everyone would get to enjoy all aspects of parkrun, instead of a lot of the same names appearing on the volunteer list every week. All the roles are very easy and full training will be provided on the day.

All the stats for the week are below, and once CONGRATULATIONS to John Byrne who completed his 50th parkrun on Saturday :)

See you all on Saturday for another great parkrun

St Anne’s parkrun – Event # 60 (06/12/2014)

St Annes parkrun
Event number 60
6th December 2014

The festive season is upon us, Christmas parties are widespread, yet 175 warriors still made it out for the weekly run here in St. Annes.
It was an eventful day for a good and bad reason.

Bad reason being that because one of our barcode scanning devices was not working, a lot of people didn't initially get a time posted in the results. I can only offer my sincere apologies for this, and hope that we don't see a repeat. Thankfully, most (I think) people got in touch with their position and I was able to rectify it. If you are still off the list then please get in touch and we will try to get you back in.

Good news is that St. Annes has nominated DEARBHLA WOODS as parkrunner of the month. She has ran and volunteered numerous times and does either one happily and enthusiastically. So best of luck to her that she gets the national recognition we feel she deserves.

The weeks results and current standings are below.

Big thanks to all our volunteers, without whom (we cannot stress enough) the event would NOT happen. Our heroes this week were:

Dearbhla WOODS • Denise KELLEHER • Gary KENNY • Gillian KENNY • Jamie PLUMMER • Jenny COLBERT • John O'CONNOR • Judith MCMAHON • Keishia TAYLOR • Keith COADY • Keith FLEMING • Padraig O FAININ • Richard O'CONNOR • Úna NÍ CHRIBÍN

Thanks again to our volunteers and our athletes and I hope to see you all at another event soon.

John O'Connor

St Annes parkrun Event # 24 – 8th March 2014

Winds of hurricane proportions hit the runners at our 24th event as Colm Kernan took the reins as Run Director for the first time. The cool, calm and collected Mr. Kernan did not let the conditions affect him as he directed 206 runners on the day, of whom 47 were first timers.

Mark MURPHY (SM25-29) of Raheny Shamrocks AC, was first over the line in 17:40 - first time in 3 appearances. D MATTHEWS (VM40-44) (Unattached) was second over the line in 18:12. Ciaran BANNAN (SM35-39) (Unattached) was third over the line in 18:18.

Catherine LYNCH (VW40-44) (Unattached) was third (17th overall) over the line in 20:09 - has been first to finish on 2 previous occasions.

The all important 98th place finisher this week was Una Ni Chribin. We are delighted to say that Token 98 remains in our possession after Saturday's run. This may well have had something to do with the theft-proof token that Una was given upon finishing the run.

Next Saturday (15th March) sees the graduation of runners who were following the Irish Times 'GetRunning' program. http://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/get-running . The runners following this program have been working up to running a 5k, with the target of a parkrun on 15th March. We'll have a 30 minute pacer at St. Anne's this Saturday, and we're also planning a group warm-up before the run kicks off, so get there early! Welcome to all GetRunning participants - looking forward to meeting you on Saturday!
