St. Anne’s parkrun Run Report #85 – 13th June 2015

Hi Everyone,

A glorious morning greeted our 250 parkrun warriors and 20 volunteer heroes for our 85th event. Was great to see so many of you answering the call to deck yourselves out in the green and tri-colours in support of Ireland...shame about the result though grrrr.

Special mention also (even though he wasn't there) to Rob Clarke who was St. Annes parkrunner of the month for March but was recently upgraded to be parkrunner of the month for Ireland. Congratulations Rob.

Anyway the pack was lead home by Dermot Gorman of Raheny Shamrocks, but he had Brian Purcell hot on his heels!!

our first lady of the day was Aine Crimin also of Raheny Shamrocks...I'm starting to spot a trend here :-)

Our coveted and much sought after 98th place was claimed by first timer Eavan Connolly. Congratulations to you all.

Like every other event, this one could NOT....NOT happen without our hard working and dedicated volunteers who made everything run perfectly. This weeks hereos were:
Allan O'Brien, Anne Mc Comish, Caitriona Rooney, Ciara Malone, Connor Jennings, Deirdre O'Dwyer, Gillian Kenny, Helen O'Shaughnessy, John O'Connor, Nicola Mooney, Peter Daniel, Robbie Beggs, Scott Love, Stella Kuit, Susan Moloney, Tara Sweetman, Tommy Crampton, Una Cherry, Úna Ní Chribín and Valerie Hand.
Thanks very much to all of you *bualadh bos*

St. Anne’s parkrun Run Report #78 – 25/4/2015

In stark contrast to the previous week (and most days since) it was a miserable morning weather-wise for parkrun number 78. However this did not stop 245 parkrunners and 16 volunteers from making sure St. Annes parkrun continued to be a terrific community event.
Our field were led home by Finbar O'Grady (after quite a battle with Wesley O'Brien) and Helen Carr was our first lady across the line. The coveted number 98 position was claimed by first timer Sven Wasmer, although the idiot Run Director never got around to taking his picture....sorry Sven!!

St. Annes parkrun COULD NOT and WOULD NOT happen without our excellent volunteers who give up their time every Saturday morning to make the event possible. This weeks heroes were:

Anne MC COMISH • Ciara MALONE • Connor JENNINGS • Declan O RIORDAN • Emma FEEHAN • John O'CONNOR • Mark GILLERAN • Mary OONAN • Noel CULLEN • Ollie POWER • Peter KILMARTIN • Richard O'CONNOR • Stella KUIT • Susan HOLMGREN • Úna NÍ CHRIBÍN • Valerie HAND

If you enjoy parkrun, and wish to see it continue, if you were to volunteer just a few times every year then everyone would get to enjoy all aspects of parkrun, instead of a lot of the same names appearing on the volunteer list every week. All the roles are very easy and full training will be provided on the day.

All the stats for the week are below, and once CONGRATULATIONS to John Byrne who completed his 50th parkrun on Saturday :)

See you all on Saturday for another great parkrun

St Anne’s parkrun – Event # 60 (06/12/2014)

St Annes parkrun
Event number 60
6th December 2014

The festive season is upon us, Christmas parties are widespread, yet 175 warriors still made it out for the weekly run here in St. Annes.
It was an eventful day for a good and bad reason.

Bad reason being that because one of our barcode scanning devices was not working, a lot of people didn't initially get a time posted in the results. I can only offer my sincere apologies for this, and hope that we don't see a repeat. Thankfully, most (I think) people got in touch with their position and I was able to rectify it. If you are still off the list then please get in touch and we will try to get you back in.

Good news is that St. Annes has nominated DEARBHLA WOODS as parkrunner of the month. She has ran and volunteered numerous times and does either one happily and enthusiastically. So best of luck to her that she gets the national recognition we feel she deserves.

The weeks results and current standings are below.

Big thanks to all our volunteers, without whom (we cannot stress enough) the event would NOT happen. Our heroes this week were:

Dearbhla WOODS • Denise KELLEHER • Gary KENNY • Gillian KENNY • Jamie PLUMMER • Jenny COLBERT • John O'CONNOR • Judith MCMAHON • Keishia TAYLOR • Keith COADY • Keith FLEMING • Padraig O FAININ • Richard O'CONNOR • Úna NÍ CHRIBÍN

Thanks again to our volunteers and our athletes and I hope to see you all at another event soon.

St Anne’s parkrun # 43 – 09/08/2014

So, not only did I arrange good weather for St Anne’s parkrun’s 43rd event, I also organised a big funfair for our lovely runners. But seriously, there was a lot of extra traffic in the park because of the family fun day out, so I appreciate you all giving way to them. 237 lined up for what I personally believe is the parkrun EVER! We have a few parkrun tourists and we gave them a great warm welcome. John Pennifold from Slough ran with a Go Pro, and has kindly put together a video of the event. You can find it here: http://youtu.be/yBHykxwezTk Thanks John! John also posted up some great pictures on our facebook page.

The volunteers this week played a blinder with such a busy event, and it was great to see so many first timers. This week legends were:

Adrienne ATKINS  •  Alice WHITTAKER  •  Alison DAVIDSON  •  Bernie O'DONOGHUE HYNES  •  Cathal MCCRORY  •  Chloe FARRELL  •  Cora ABBOTT  •  Emer HICKEY  •  Eugene MEEGAN  •  Jamie PLUMMER  •  Jenny COLBERT  •  Laura BRAYDEN  •  Laura O'CONNOR  •  Michelle FARRELL  •  Richard O'CONNOR  •  Rob CLARKE

We need volunteers every week to sustain the event, so please give a bit back to your parkrun, by volunteering at least once a year. There are even some positions that you can do PLUS partake in the run, so you don’t have to sacrifice your run. Please email stanneshelpers@parkrun.com to volunteer for a future date, or through our facebook page www.facebook.com/stannesparkrun Along with the fun of the event, the satisfaction that you hae contributed to ths sustainability of the event and meeting new people, you also get 100 points for the annual points competition. We are fast approaching the finish line in the first annual points competition at St. Anne's which leads me to the current standings:

No change to the Men's annual points competition with David SHIEL (Unattached) who will be hard to beat with 2714 pts. Our favourite newlywed Run Director Brian CHRISTENSEN (Raheny Shamrocks AC) is next with 2298 pts. While parkrun regular Gregory O'BEIRNE (Unattached) is on 2189 pts.

In the Women's annual points competition the duel is underway. Una CHERRY (Garda Athletic Club) is top of the leaderboard with 3138 pts, but nipping at her heels is Jenny COLBERT (Unattached) with 3122 pts. (Perhaps a bit of volunteering will help close the distance ladies!) Next after Jenny is Emer FANNING (Unattached) with a respectable 2809 pts.

To see all the results from Saturday’s event have a look at, http://www.parkrun.ie/stannes/results/latestresults/. You can also see a complete event history there too. This week’s first finishers were:

Men's placings:
Anthony FLANNERY (SM25-29) (Unattached) was first over the line in 17:21 - first appearance.
Frank MANGAN (VM35-39) of Raheny Shamrocks AC, was second over the line in 17:24.
Kieran CONDON (VM35-39) (Unattached) was third over the line in 18:27.

Women's placings:
Karen CROSSAN (SW25-29) of Raheny Shamrocks AC, was first (5th overall) over the line in 18:34 - first appearance.
Aisling RUANE (SW30-34) of Crusaders Athletic Club, was second (16th overall) over the line in 20:11.
Anna REIDY (SW20-24) (Unattached) was third (20th overall) over the line in 20:38.

Some important notes:
It’s worth repeating last week’s important notes:

  • We are losing 3-5 tokens on average per week. We have lost well over 100 tokens since the event started 43 weeks ago due to people not returning them. Tokens cost money. We don't get paid for parkrun, so the cost to replace these comes out of our pockets!
  • We will be continuing to enforce the 'No barcode, no result' policy. Previously we have accommodated runners as much as possible but adding the names manually is adding considerable workload for the volunteers.
  • We always need volunteers, please don't assume someone else will do it! Check out the roster for gaps, and sign yourself up! http://www.parkrun.ie/stannes/futureroster/
  • Our first anniversary run will take place on 27th September. Put the date in your diary!

See you Saturday! Happy running!

Jamie Plummer, Run Director

St. Anne’s parkrunner of the month – July 2014

Name: Una Cherry

Club: Garda Athletics Club

Age: 49

Home parkrun: I started in Malahide Castle but changed to St Annes when that started.... It's nearer home so 15 more minutes in bed means a lot to me on a Saturday morning!

Occupation: Sgt in Garda HQ, Phoenix Park (Fab for lunchtime running!!)

Number of runs: 50

Favourite Volunteer Role: I enjoy scanning the barcodes. It is great to hear all the different views from people just after crossing that finish line!!

What do you do at parkruns: I like to get down to St Annes about 15 -20 minutes before the start to give me enough time to have a slow warm up and wake up! I then head over to the start area to see who is around. Parkrun is a great community gathering. I have met old friends and made new friends. Over my 50 runs I have huffed and puffed up that "lovely" avenue in St Annes with my husband, family and friends and it is great to get to the finish and hear the tales of joy and woe! I usually head over to the Red Stables afterwards where I sometimes help with token sorting and always enjoy a coffee! A quick stop in St Annes market too and my "me" time is over! Time to take up the roll of mammy on the side line at Scoil Ui Chonail GAA for the kids matches for the rest of the day! Quick plug for another local club!

How has parkrun changed your running: I have enjoyed running sporadically over the last 20 years or so. I tend to enter an event, train for it and then slacken off til another event takes my facy. I am also a bit of a fair weather runner and tend to ease off in the winter! But then Parkrun came along and you see I am a bit competitive!! I have probably got a bit caught up in the points competition so now hail, rain or snow (or after a late night with a hangover!) I am up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning putting on the running gear! As a result of this, I have also got into a better routine of training during the week. I still enter other events and my times all round have got better and better!

What do you like about parkrun: Everything!! I took part in the first parkrun in Malahide in November 2012 and thought "wow"! A well organised, free, timed run almost on my doorstep- this will have to catch on in Ireland. Thankfully it did catch on and less than a year later one started on my doorstep - St Annes. What more could I ask for! What I also love about parkrun is that it caters for all standards from the fastest club runners to parents with prams. You are only running against yourself. As I have two kids myself I love to see the juniors taking part too.

Most memorable or funniest parkrun: Reaching the big 50 in park running (no not age... Yet!) was a memorable moment. Doing it with my son, Joseph (age 12), and my sister Helen O'Shaughnessy (a New Zealand park runner) who was home for a few weeks made it even more memorable! What made it funny was as myself and Helen huffed and puffed towards the last 100 meters I never expected to hear "hi Mam, hi Aunty Helen" as my 12 year old and his pal, who we usually cheer to the finish line after we finish, passed the two of us like lightening, smashing his PB by about 5 mins! We all finished laughing...! Isn't that what parkrun is all about!

Una is pictured here on the left, with her sister and son at her 50th parkrun a few weeks ago.

St Annes Parkrun Event #42 02/08/2014

Well, Saturday was a fine day for the ducks. On a day that saw a month's worth of rain come down upon us, 119 hardy bucks and belles descended upon the park for the 42nd edition of St. Anne's parkrun. The course boasted a super water feature this week, just to add a little spice to proceedings. Thankfully we had an enthusiastic band of volunteers who made sure that the event went ahead safely. They are the real heroes this week, and I would like to recognise them up front:

Anne MC COMISH  •  Brendan TANNAM  •  David WALLEY  •  Dearbhla WOODS  •  Eddie MCGOVERN  •  Emma FAGAN  •  Jamie KILLEEN  •  Judith MCMAHON  •  Kate LENNON  •  Kathryn KILLEEN  •  Lynn HOWARD  •  Nicole FITZPATRICK  •  Nicole ROECHERT  •  Susan HOLMGREN

Men's placings:
Eoin DURKAN (SM30-34) of Aberdeen AAC, was first over the line in 17:08 - first appearance.
David JACKSON (SM25-29) (Unattached) was second over the line in 17:32.
Neil BOWDEN (VM35-39) of Dell Trotters, was third over the line in 19:12.

Women's placings:
Aileen HOOPER (SW30-34) of Raheny Shamrocks AC, was first (22nd overall) over the line in 21:38 - third time in 7 appearances.
Sharon WOODS (VW45-49) of Crusaders Athletic Club, was second (35th overall) over the line in 22:32 - was first to finish once before.
Aoife STACK (SW25-29) (Unattached) was third (36th overall) over the line in 22:34.

Annual Points Competition:

We are fast approaching the finish line in the first annual points competition at St. Anne's. David Shiel is the runaway leader in the Men's competition, but the Women's competition is a more closely-fought affair, and we may yet need to organise some sort of head-to-head duel to separate them at the end of the current cycle.

Current standing in the Men's annual points competition:
David SHIEL (Unattached) 2622 pts.
Brian CHRISTENSEN (Raheny Shamrocks AC) 2298 pts.
Gregory O'BEIRNE (Unattached) 2189 pts.

Current standing in the Women's annual points competition:
Una CHERRY (Garda Athletic Club) 2861 pts.
Jenny COLBERT (Unattached) 2725 pts.
Emer FANNING (Unattached) 2443 pts.

Some important notes:

  • We are losing 3-5 tokens on average per week. We have lost well over 100 tokens since the event started 42 weeks ago due to people not returning them. Tokens cost money. We don't get paid for parkrun, so the cost to replace these comes out of our pockets!
  • We will be enforcing the 'No barcode, no result' policy from this weekend. Previously we have accommodated runners as much as possible but adding the names manually is adding considerable workload for the volunteers.
  • We always need volunteers, please dont assume someone else will do it! Check out the roster for gaps, and sign yourself up!
  • Our first anniversary run will take place on 27th September. Put the date in your diary!

St Annes Parkrun Event #41 26/07/2014

A swarm of 202 athletes turned out for what was an eventful Parkrun. The weather held nicely and the run was rain free with a nice cooling breeze.

Una Cherry of Garda Athletic Club hit a major milestone as she successfully completed her 50th Parkrun. So big congratulations to her. And as if you thought the day couldn't possibly have been more groundbreaking, a brand new St Annes Parkrun record was set. Mark Kirwan of Raheny Shamrocks lead the field home in a STONKING time of 15:03!!! Smashing the previous record by a good 40 seconds and was a mere 1 second off the national Parkrun record!!

Deirdre Byrne was our first lady finisher and 8th overall with a very decent time of 18:46. In fact Deirdre has been the first lady each time she has competed in St Annes, so has set a very high standard. Ross Killeen picked up the coveted and much sought after 98th position. Commiserations to those who finished 97th and 99th.

Must say a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers, without whom the event could not, and would not have happened. Our heroes this week were:

Anna PRINGLE  •  David JACKSON  •  Eleanor SAMMON  •  Jamie KENNY  •  John O'CONNOR  •  Kenneth MCKEOWN  •  Leah OWENS  •  Mark MCCOMISH  •  Orla BYRNE  •  Paddy O'CONNOR  •  Richard O'CONNOR  •  Sanibelle O'CONNOR  •  Susan HOLMGREN  •  Una HERON
