St.Anne’s parkrun Event #124

Before we embark on run number 125 for St. Annes, let us travel back one week in time for the inspiration of run 124.

We had a magnificent 300 runners who turned out on a cold morning but the run soon heated up. We had the VHI Mini Marathon ladies bringing additional glamour and brightness all the way from Marlay Park.

Hugely inspirational milestones on the day for Keith Fleming (100th parkrun), Maia Moore, Eleanor Sammon, Philip Harrison (all 50th parkrun) and finally Eve Coffey who completed a 10th parkrun. Congratulations all.

To top it all off we had 80 new PBs within our runners, over 20% of the runners.

And finally to the amazing volunteers, without whom the run can not happen.

Happy Easter all and here come the statistics.

See you all soon

St. Anne’s parkrunner of the month – February 2016

Home parkrun: St.Annes

Occupation: School

Number of Runs: 56

Favourite Volunteer Role: Token sorting, you still get to run and its in the warm cafe

What do you do at parkruns?: When I arrive I'll usually do a quick warm up to get ready for the run. Then after the run briefing I'll go to the front of the start line and get ready to go. After the run I might go to the market for a cake or two before heading off to train again.

How has parkrun changed your running?: Before parkrun I did no running but after my first parkrun I started to train more and more as the weeks went by and slowly got better and better.

What do you like about parkrun?: It gives you a platform to improve your running as you can see weekly if your improving or if you had a bad week of training. You also meet other runners of your ability who you can chat to and run with.

Most memorable or funniest parkrun moment?: Beating my 'running partner' and friend in a fiercely competitive run. He led for the first 3k but then I caught up and we were neck and neck until the last 200m when I decided to make an early sprint and luckily I just about held on for the win!

St. Anne’s parkrun #115 – Run Report

5 days later and I think the excitement of last week has finally started to subside.

We had an amazing morning with a little bit of coldness but that was soon forgotten when we got down to business. 468 people turned up from first timers to people with over 100 parkruns, walkers to sprinters. That is the magic of parkrun is that everyone is equal, you challenge yourself and see how you fare.

It was a magnificent turnout out due to Operation Transformation, the Lord Mayor and the 5 Alive crew and our regular runners, Raheny Community First Responders and Raheny GAA. Noticed that the GAA crew were a little worried about 6 in the evening as to how long more one of their crew would be before they finished.

Then there was the volunteers, the magnificent volunteers who make it look like everything is a piece of cake, which it is as long as we have volunteers. And speaking of cake we also had Olives café afterwards.

To top it all off the post about the run reached over 7500 people so we are officially famous.

Obviously the reference in the briefing to "heroes just for one day" was a reference to David Bowie, and the "I will count to 3, there will not be a 4" was Alan Rickman as "Hans Gruber" in Die Hard, we had some movie nerds (like me) who got this.

Now here is the science bit, the stats from last week are

St. Anne’s parkrun – Run Report – Event #96

Saturday 5th September brought us parkrun No. 96, only 3 more to birthday no. 2 and 4 to our 100th parkrun.

The day had multiple key moments.

The run where Una Ní Chribin was announced as parkrunner of the month and completed her 50th parkrun. Congratulations Una on your achievements.

The run where Deirdre O'Grady completed her 50th parkrun. Congratulations Deirdre.

The run where we had all the volunteer slots filled by Thursday morning, much to the relief of the Run Director. This was a great result for us all as volunteers and runners are vital to the continued success of the run. We would recommend that everyone gets involved in volunteering. Only then will you be told about the secret handshake and given the keys of the kingdom. Thank you very much to the amazing volunteers we had on the day.

The day where our photographer took over 370 amazing photographs and yours truly took over a day to download and upload them. Worth the wait we are sure you agree.

Along with all this we had 271 runners taking on our fine course, including several first timers and also tourists from Manchester. Congratulations to you all.
