St. Anne’s parkrun – Event #102

The sun was shining on St. Anne's parkrun for Event #102. We welcomed visitors from Holland, South Africa and the UK to the undisputed best parkrun in the world. The immensely good looking field of runners was led home by Wesley O'Brien, followed by a further 271 runners. Leading the ladies was Kate O'Neill (3rd overall), while our pacers Kieran Martin (20 mins) and Damien Martin (25 mins) led a number of runners to their goals. Paul Grant finished in the highly coveted 98th place.

Congratulations to Aine Kelly and Elma Keane on reaching their 50th parkrun - what an achievement - well done ladies.

We always need volunteers - there are many regular runners who have not volunteered yet. The event's continued success depends on you stepping forward to help out, so please do. If everyone volunteered at least once per year, we would have a full roster every week many times over!

One final note: please do not take the plastic tokens home - we need them!

This week there were 272 runners, of whom 29 were first timers and 65 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different athletics clubs took part.

This week's full results can be found here.

Until next time, keep on running!

St. Anne’s parkrun – Run Report – Event #93

Hello St. Annes parkrunners!!!

Another lovely morning greeted our 316 parkrun warriors on Saturday.

Regular runner and volunteer Deirdre Byrne was first across the line for the 2nd time in a whopping personal best time of 16:56..only 4 seconds off the long standing female record set by Aoife Talty at our very 1st event...maybe not the record for much longer

Our first male finisher (2nd overall) didn't record his name with us.

Also a big shout out to Colette Madigan who had a special milestone occasion as she completed her 50th parkrun. So a big congratulations to Colette who I am sure is eager to go for the next 50!

As I mentioned in the pre-run briefing, volunteers seem to be very hard to come by these days. This can lead to delays for everyone at the end and more chance of mistakes being made if we don't have enough people to ensure a smooth running. This is your event...our event...everybody's event, so if you enjoy it and would like to see it continue, then we need to get more people helping out. If you would like to help ensure the future of St. Annes parkrun, then you can contact us at stanneshelpers@parkrun.ie, get in touch via our facebook page or speak to us in person at any of the events. This week's volunteer heroes were:

Alan Foley, Anne McComish, Connor Jennings, Damien Martin, Deirdre Byrne, Dermot Coffey, Eddie McGovern, Gary Kenny, Jamie Plummer, John O'Connor, Mark McComish, Nicole Roechert, Ollie Power, Philip Boylan, Richard O'Connor, Tommy Crampton and Una Cherry who was also the PROUD inductee 98th position hall of fame!! So a big BIG thank you to you all!

The full results list can be found at http://www.parkrun.ie/stannes/results/weeklyresults/?runSeqNumber=93

The rest of your stats are below, and I look forward to seeing you all at another great St. Annes parkrun in the near future.

St. Anne’s parkrun – parkrunner of the month, July 2015

St. Anne's parkrun would like to congratulate Rusty Keogh on being our latest parkrunner of the month! Shy and retiring, most of our runners may not have ever seen this guy who goes about his business quietly every Saturday morning. Rusty did feel that he deserved parkrunner of the month, and admits that he has gradually been reducing the length of his shorts each month in an effort to get noticed. Thankfully we got to him before he brought out his denim cut-offs, a throwback to his days as a Wham! superfan. Meet the hero this Saturday at 9:30am where Rusty will be volunteering.

Read more about Rusty and his parkrun story below - this is well worth a read!

RK Unicorn

Real name: Bruce Wayne
Club: Gotham athletics
Age: Nearly 5 in dog years
Home parkrun: St. Annes!!
Occupation: Office monkey (future olympian)
Number of Runs: I think its 42 next week?
Favourite Volunteer Role: Pacer, it feels like a sneaky way to get a run in and still say 'ah aren't I a great fella for helping?'
What do you do at parkruns?: I irritate EVERYONE. Runwise sometimes I take it easy and enjoy one of the most beautiful parks in Dublin and other times I push harder than normal and hate my life for 21 minutes or so
How do you deal with all of the attention that comes your way at parkrun?: I don't get enough, I've started wearing headbands to try increase my presence and I recently purchased a flaming unicorn t-shirt but *its not too important if people don't notice me*

*this is a lie

How has parkrun changed your running?: Parkrun started me running, I did a parkrun nearly two years ago and embarrassed myself so badly I trained all week to not be so bad, the next week I did slightly better...and the 12 weeks after I just kept progressing and long story short I'm currently training for my 3rd marathon in a year and that is all thanks to parkrun.
What words of inspiration do you have for those who would like to follow in your footsteps?: Get a good audiobok and some headphones, you get lost in the chapters and also can't hear yourself screaming for breath...best long run trick ever.
Which of the O'Connor brothers do you prefer?: For love John, for good times Richie and for walks in the sunset Paddy
What do you like about parkrun?: There is no standard needed and a constant great energy. It feels more like a team than a race I find, not many occasions can gather over 200 people in sideways Irish rain at 9.30am and maintain a great vibe.
Most memorable or funniest parkrun moment?: MY most memorable is when I ran my p.b and was absolutely convinced I was about to drop dead for 10 minutes after I finished, I was so tired I was looking around for emergency exits (from a park)
Any messages for your legions of fans?: 'Sippin on coke and rum I'm like 'so what I'm drunk' its the freakin weekend baby I'm about to have me some fun' - ABRAHAM LINCOLN (2014)

St. Anne’s parkrun Run Report #78 – 25/4/2015

In stark contrast to the previous week (and most days since) it was a miserable morning weather-wise for parkrun number 78. However this did not stop 245 parkrunners and 16 volunteers from making sure St. Annes parkrun continued to be a terrific community event.
Our field were led home by Finbar O'Grady (after quite a battle with Wesley O'Brien) and Helen Carr was our first lady across the line. The coveted number 98 position was claimed by first timer Sven Wasmer, although the idiot Run Director never got around to taking his picture....sorry Sven!!

St. Annes parkrun COULD NOT and WOULD NOT happen without our excellent volunteers who give up their time every Saturday morning to make the event possible. This weeks heroes were:

Anne MC COMISH • Ciara MALONE • Connor JENNINGS • Declan O RIORDAN • Emma FEEHAN • John O'CONNOR • Mark GILLERAN • Mary OONAN • Noel CULLEN • Ollie POWER • Peter KILMARTIN • Richard O'CONNOR • Stella KUIT • Susan HOLMGREN • Úna NÍ CHRIBÍN • Valerie HAND

If you enjoy parkrun, and wish to see it continue, if you were to volunteer just a few times every year then everyone would get to enjoy all aspects of parkrun, instead of a lot of the same names appearing on the volunteer list every week. All the roles are very easy and full training will be provided on the day.

All the stats for the week are below, and once CONGRATULATIONS to John Byrne who completed his 50th parkrun on Saturday :)

See you all on Saturday for another great parkrun

St Anne’s parkrun – Event number 70 21st February 2015

Hi all,

We had a great field of 266 runners, who braved the cold and windy day to make this weekend's parkrun.
We also had a great team of volunteers who helped make the day run smoothly.
Another great thing is that we did not lose any of our tokens.

One apology to make, that we did not acknowledge Keith Fleming who completed his 50th Parkrun last Saturday. Congratulations Keith.
