St Anne’s parkrun Event #215 – 01/01/2018

2 for 1, get it here, 2 for 1, one off chance, today only, last time this year.

In the middle of storms Dylan and Eleanor we got to experience our own perfect storm. The traditional New Years Day double header, 9.30 in St Anne's park and 11.00 in Father Collins park blew into 2018 with 292 people in St Annes and then 244 people in Father Collins.

Eager as people were to get the year off to a great running start, the first people arrived before 9.00 while the set up was taking place. The new year atmosphere continued to build as participants flooded towards the briefing point. There were parkruns from all over the country represented. In no particular order Tralee, Ardgillan, Donabate, River Valley, Ardgillan and Malahide were represented. We also had a number of first timers - both to St Annes and to parkrun - so we want to extend a massive welcome to all those who are now parkrunners.

Congratulations to Ailish Cassidy who recorded her 50th parkrun. Thank you also to the fabulous volunteers who have brought parkrun into another year. As we always recognise, the success of parkrun is dependent on the ongoing contributions of their own time that volunteers give, week after week. It will always be appreciated and never taken for granted.

On a personal note I would like to thank everyone for the warm congratulations given to me while volunteering for the 100th time. And thank you to all the members of the core team who help keep the run going. It is not every day that I would be comfortable standing in the middle of a public park wearing a pink boa, but for some reason it felt right on New Years Day.

Our 215th run took off at 9.30 and a number of people headed off on a journey that would end up being a 5k run, a 10k run with a 5k drive and for some a 15k run by running to Father Collins park for 11.00. I know there were a number of people who got through the first 5k and were drawn by the lure of Olives Cafe, fresh coffee and the smell of baked scones. The rest of us headed to Father Collins park for round 2.

Did I mention that Ardgillan parkrun were here.

So ended the St Annes leg of the double and I leave you with the only rule of parkrun. DON'T FORGET YOUR BARCODE. No barcode means no time on that day.

The stats for the day are below, so congratulations to the 54 first timers and 22 PBs.Not a bad start to the year.

See you next Saturday

Richie

This week 292 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 54 were first timers and 22 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 29 different clubs took part.
