Poolbeg parkrun is cancelled on 2020-12-05 – COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Run report run no 124: 01/01/20

Wow what a stunning morning we had for our New Years Day run also known as our first run of 2020 and our first run of the new decade! We were the 2nd run in the double header with Cabinteely today but we also had people coming to Poolbeg after having done Fr Collins and Bushy! The map with double connections will no doubt be out later this week and show all the connections and options people picked !

We had 274 people joining us this morning to run, jog and walk the course, which means that our attendance record from last year already was broken on the 1st of January! We had 103 first timers and ideal running conditions meant that 39 recorded new PBs. Representatives of 29 different running and triathlon clubs took part.

Russell chose today to do his 50th parkrun and it would be wrong not to give a shot out to Tara also as she did her 100th run this weekend just gone at Delaware parkrun in the states! Fair play to both of you! Looking forward to see you in your respective milestone T-shirt’s soon!

The extra crowds meant that we put on extra marshals and extra scanners to make the whole event run smooth, in total 18 volunteers were on hand to help RD Kevin who made his run director debut this day last year and now has first dibs when it comes to the run director role for New Year’s Day!

As we expect big crowds for the rest of January and into February also-please drop us a line if you can help us and volunteer as without volunteers we are nowhere! Have a great rest of your day and well done on starting 2020 with parkrun! See you Saturday (you might as well continue what you started today!)!

Run report run no 123: 28/12/19

It was the not only the last Poolbeg parkrun of 2019 but also the last Poolbeg parkrun of the decade! Fear not though-we start the new decade on Wednesday morning the 1st at 11am so why not join us then and start the ‘20s with a 5km shakeout! RD Mari flew back in last night and her Norwegian gingerbread made it off the plane in one piece so the promise of gingerbread for volunteers was kept.

Thanks to the last minute volunteer walk ups the roster was complete and a total of 14 volunteers meant we could start this mornings event safely and even with a few pacers! We had 94 people in total who joined us to run, jog and walk the course. There were 12 first timers and of those returning 8 recorded new PBs. Representatives of 13 different running and triathlon clubs took part.

One of the proud owners of a new PB was Kevin, who did not only get his PB but also reached his 100th milestone.

If you want to say congrats to him, he will be there as RD on Wednesday morning! Even better-why not help him celebrate the milestone by volunteering? All jokes aside: well done to Kevin and everybody else who was out this morning. The hardest part of parkrun is getting out the door on a Saturday morning-after that it gets easier! For now have a happy new year and see you on Wednesday the 1st of January 2020 at 11am for our New Year’s Day run!

This morning we were treated to the most painterly of sunrises. As the orange sun gingerly peered up over the Irish Sea on the shortest day of the year the varying silvers of the glittering shallow tide, the small silhouettes of birds wadding, the fog sitting on Dún Laoghaire harbour and the clouds sat on Dalkey Head gave everyone so much to take in throughout the morning. The weather is different at Poolbeg every Saturday morning and it’s truly a great place to enjoy the seasons.

Today was the 122nd running of the Poolbeg parkrun. We had 138 walkers, joggers, triathletes, runners, and 16 volunteers join us today. A big shout out to Clodagh Fagan, a regular volunteer, who today became a Run Director for the first time. Well done, Clodagh!

Run report run no 121: 14/12/19

Today was 121st running of the Poolbeg parkrun . We had 119 walkers, joggers, triathletes, runners, and 18 volunteers join us today on what turned out to be a beautiful sunny blustery morning. A very welcome sight after the wintery weather all week.

Our run director, Franky Keane, was delighted to announce some terrific hot off the press news this morning. Poolbeg will be running a special parkrun event on New Years Day at 11am this year. Cabinteely will also be running one on the same day but at 9am (yes, 09:00, half an hour earlier than usual) which means those of you who really want to boost your parkrun numbers can actually do two parkrun in one day, and it isn’t even a Saturday!

We have two big shout outs for some great achievements today. Firstly to Kevin O’Flynn who hit the 50 milestone today, about half of which he completed with us. 79512104_790667901356481_2752057078674620416_o

Looking forward to seeing you in the red tee shirt, Kevin. Secondly we need to mention Poolbeg super star, Horst Siedschlag, who set an age category record for VM80-84 in 36:07 - bualadh bos! You may recognise Horst as the marshall at the top of the hill, his favourite place to volunteer. He likes the hill so much, that it is informally named after him.

We had several tourists from Britain and other parts of Ireland join us this morning. Of the 119 parkruners, we had representatives of 17 different clubs who took part, as well as 10 Personal Bests, and 31 first timers, which brings us to over 4,000 different people who have participated since we began.

The water features that were introduced to our course in recent weeks had largely dried up leading to perfect running conditions. This morning we welcomed 110 people who ran, jogged and walked the course, made possible by a group of 14 volunteers. We had 17 first timers and of those returning 16 recorded new PBs. Representatives of 18 different running and triathlon clubs took part. Some of our first timers were visitors all the way from 2 different parkruns in South Africa as well as our running camera man from Carrickfergus parkrun up North. Watch out for the video he made which we should be able to post during the week!

Core team member Éamon, who is generally the volunteer who does do the ore event set up with the flour as well as does a so called ‘plog’ every Saturday morning clearing all the rubbish from our course, did his 200th parkrun this morning which is one of the unofficial milestone. Well done Éamon and all going well we should be able to spot you in a green milestone T-shirt this time next year!

Next weeks volunteer roster is looking healthy but if you want to do something for Poolbeg parkrun before the end of the year we have plenty of spots available in the rest of December also!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and see you next week for more parkrun fun!
