Lough Key parkrun – January 2019

5th January 2019. Run Director Liza
258 of you joined us in Lough Key this morning which was smoothly executed by Run Director Liza.
We had so many first timers, families, friends, father and sons, fathers and daughters, Mums and daughters, grannies with grandkids... all walking or running the lovely 5k loop. We had visitors from Longford, Cardiff, South Africa, Dublin and Mayo.

What a wonderful start to 2019. It was pacer week, organised by Dean with a roster of 46 volunteers . We had Marguerita celebrating her 100th parkrun and what better way to do that than to volunteer to pace. Congratulations and thank you Marguerita! A cake was enjoyed (this IS why we run isn’t it?! ) by all and baked by her friend Cathy.

Maurice was on photography duty and did a great job. A HUGE thanks to all our volunteers who brought you your parkrun today. We had a great crew and they did a fabulous job - special mention to Liza with her new sign (thank you Neil Conlon). If the sign ever goes missing, we’ll know where to look! Thank you to all the volunteers who stepped up today. Shay Madden and Conor and Padraig Taheny did a great job in token sorting - thank you lads!

The finish funnel was a busy spot today but all handled so smoothly by our efficient timekeepers, Adrian who didn’t have time to get in trouble today as the parkrunners were coming so fast, our bouncers directing traffic and our 3 scanners - brilliant job!

Our first finisher today was the zippy Daniel Dill, with young Aidan Dowler hot on his heels (and who scored himself a PB) and Michael Corrigan in third. Our First Ladies were Nicolla Costello and Joan Boyd with their four legged companions and our next ladies (without four legged companions) over the line were Helen McHenry, Rebecca Duignan and Mary Moran - well done to you all. Super Running.

Big Thanks to Ciara and Lisa as our tail walkers, ensuring that nobody was last and that everybody got home safely. Not forgetting our marshals for their cheers along the route, with special mention and good wishes to our friend Noreen Colreavy who has a big date coming up very soon....

Young Tyler was back again today with his Mammy Lara, he has his own barcode now and he’s starting to perfect his sprint finish to tremendous applause.

We had a HUGE crew of volunteers to keep everything running smoothly, marshals at every turn, an amazing finish funnel team and Fiona taking volunteers down for the coming weeks - thank you all!! What a community

Anoop Alias, Gary Beirne, Deasún Lyons, Clodagh and Darragh Gilligan and Rachel Fitzgerald Feeley all achieved PBs. Well done to you all.

Our new Future Roster board went down a treat. Huge thanks to Mark Conlon of Classic Signs Sligo for the great job.

The Lakeside Cafe was abuzz with chats and cakes and post run discussions and when some of the team left at 12pm there was still a few hard core tables left. Please don’t ever be shy of coming into the cafe, there’ll be a seat at any table for you even if you know nobody. Remember , strangers are friends you’re yet to meet and we were all strangers once and look at us all this morning...

On the morning of Event #139 the weather was very, very wet.
It was to be Boyle AC’s 1st ever takeover at Lough key and the rain didn’t deter the club members

Thank you to Lough Key allowing us to use one one of their tents to help keep volunteers dry.

It was a morning of celebration as wee Daniel Martens arrived to run his 10th parkrun achieving his club 10 milestone while Noel Lynott arrived to run his 50th parkrun! Congratulations. There were birthdays too, Muriel, Martina & our Fabulous ED Patricia. We are very thankful to Patricia for bringing parkrun to Lough key, we hope you enjoyed your cake!

In excess of 200 participants walked, jogged & ran with us in the rain, the phrase “Only Champions run in the rain” is true.
