Limerick parkrun Event #153 1 January 2019: Happy New parkrun Year!

2019 certainly began with a bang at Limerick parkrun! New Year's Day is the only day of the year you can participate in two parkruns and receive credits for both. With this in mind, we put our heads together with our friends at Lees Road parkrun in Ennis to organise a New Year's Day Double. It was decided that Limerick parkrun would start 30 minutes earlier than usual at 9am, and Lees Road parkrun would start 90 minutes later than usual at 11am allowing enough time to get from Limerick to Ennis to complete the double.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about starting half an hour earlier than normal, but it was wonderful to see 127 parkrunners of all ages, including representatives of 11 clubs, turn out for our 153rd event on Tuesday morning.

We are very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Gerry Campbell, Noreen Campbell, Gareth Cox, Mark Fellner, Regina Fitzpatrick, Senan Kenny, James Naughton, Oliver Naughton, Shona Ní Fhloinn, Seamus O'Flynn, and Martina Shanahan.

We were delighted to welcome 27 First Timers - including visitors from Brisbane, Donegal, Galway, Tipperary, Clarisford parkrun, and of course Lees Road parkrun - we hope you enjoyed Limerick parkrun, and that you come back again. Well done to the 17 participants who recorded new Personal Bests on Tuesday! Times are available here.

Here's to your next milestones - Mark and Thomas!

After all that excitement, 48 parkrunners headed out to Lees Road parkrun to do it all again! Huge thanks to the team in Ennis for all the work they put in to the 2019 New Year's Day Double parkrun. What a way to start 2019!

Please note that Limerick parkrun will go ahead as usual at 9:30 every Saturday morning from now on.

Happy New Year!

PLEASE NOTE: This year Limerick parkrun will host an extra event on New Year's Day (Tuesday, January 1st) at 9am. The earlier start time of 9am on New Year's Day is to facilitate a 'New Year's Day Double' with Lees Road parkrun (off the Lahinch Road) in Ennis. Limerick parkrun will take place at 9am (NOT 9:30am!), and Lees Road parkrun will take place at 11am. New Year's Day is the only day when it is possible to participate in two parkruns and get run/volunteer credits for both. The earlier start time of 9am in Limerick will ensure that there is plenty of time to get to Lees Road parkrun in Ennis for the 11am start.

Extra parkrun events over the Christmas season @ Limerick

This year Limerick parkrun along with our normal parkrun event on 22nd December will host two extra events over the Christmas season. The first one will take place on Christmas Day at 9.30am @ the boathouse in UL and the second one will take place on New Year's Day at 9am! Note the change in time for New Year's Day. This is to facilitate the traditional New Year's Day double with our neighbours Lees road parkrun in Ennis.
