It wasn't looking good for parkrun on Friday evening. The warnings of driving rain and howling wind were coming in thick and fast continuously on all media platforms as the fear of cancellation began to rear its ugly head. parkrun couldn't be cancelled...celebrations had been planned!
Thankfully, Saturday dawned with calmer weather than had been forecast - though still not entirely pleasant!
The conditions didn't deter our parkrunners

And off they went, Santa hats and all!
Amazingly, 90 parkrunners braved the elements for our 149th event, which was made possible by twelve hi-vis heroes. We are very grateful to Sarah Benson, Gerard Brinn, Gerry Campbell, Carmela Doyle, Will Greensmyth, Brian Halpin, Breda Leo, Orla Muldoon, Shona Ní Fhloinn, Hannah Quinlivan, Katie Reynolds, and Adam Stapleton for volunteering.

The future volunteer roster can be viewed here. New volunteers are always welcome - you can give your name to the Run Director any week, and we will happily add you to the roster.
Huge thanks also to Odeon Cinema Castletroy for providing water at the finish - it is very much appreciated.
We were delighted to welcome 7 First Timers on Saturday (what a day you picked!) - including visitors from London and Portlaoise - we hope you enjoyed Limerick parkrun, and that you come back again. There were also 13 different clubs represented. Congratulations to the 4 parkrunners who recorded new PBs! Times are available here.

Saturday was a particularly special occasion at Limerick parkrun, as we celebrated no less than five milestones...yes, five!
First of all, congratulations to Brendan Kennedy, who ran his 50th parkrun on Saturday - here's to your next 50, Brendan! (Unfortunately we were unable to present Brendan with his certificate, but we'll hopefully do so next week.)
Next up, we had not one, not two, not three, but four parkrunners who ran their 100th parkruns on Saturday. We're not sure that this has happened in Ireland before, but how fitting that it should occur despite the inclement weather.
One Irish first that we are sure of (according to a very reliable source!) is that Saturday was the first time three members of one family ran their 100th parkruns on the same day!
Adam, Adrian, and Filip Piotrowski celebrated the same milestone together on the same day for the second time!

Michael O'Shea joined the Piotrowskis so that the four of them could run their 100th parkruns together. It was Adrian who suggested a quadruple 100th celebration, which involved coordinating volunteer weeks so that all 4 would reach 100 parkruns on the same day, and also temporarily coaxing Michael back to Limerick parkrun from Mungret parkrun. Much to everyone's relief, the
calendars stars aligned to enable this. Now there was only one thing missing - cake! Sincere thanks to the generous donor, a parkrunner who wishes to remain anonymous, for kindly sponsoring the delicious sponge pictured below.
Congratulations on 100 parkruns, Adam, Adrian, Filip, and Michael - here's to your next milestones!

I think it's fair to say that our newest centurions were looking forward to some "milestone cake"!
Our latest centurions with Liam, the first Limerick centurion!
Although we usually have Christmas tea/coffee and treats on the Saturday before Christmas, we decided to bring it forward a week and have one big celebration on Saturday instead. We are very grateful to SuperValu Castletroy, who very generously sponsored lots of tasty treats for the festivities. Huge thanks also to Aly, Clare, and Marta for bringing sweets, biscuits, and scrumptious homemade confections!
It was also great to see so many parkrunners in festive attire for the occasion.
A special mention to Kieran Daly, who ran his 150th parkrun on Saturday - congratulations, Kieran!
There was also a third reason to celebrate as one of our regular parkrunners, Cyril, was surprised with a cake - belated happy birthday, Cyril!

There is only a small selection of photos from Saturday included here. Many thanks to Will Greensmyth for capturing some excellent snaps! You can view the rest of Will's shots either on the Limerick parkrun Facebook page or in the Limerick parkrun Flickr group.
This year Limerick parkrun, in addition to our usual event on the Saturday before Christmas (22nd December 2018), will host two extra events over the festive period. The first one will take place on Christmas Day at 9:30am, and the second one will take place on New Year's Day at 9am. The earlier start time of 9am on New Year's Day is to facilitate a 'New Year's Day Double' with Lees Road parkrun in Ennis, which will take place at 11am. (New Year's Day is the only day when it is possible to participate in two parkruns and get run/volunteer credits for both.)
Hope to see you there - all welcome! If you don't have a barcode, you can register at www.parkrun.ie/register.
