35 participants and 15 volunteers dragged themselves out of bed on a dank, dark and miserably wet morning to get down to Gorey Town Park to take part in Gorey parkrun. 10 of those participants were first timers, I just hope that you wont be put off by the conditions, they are not normally as bad as they were on Saturday. Despite the conditions 7 new personal best times were set. Well done to everyone who made it out.

Many thanks to the volunteers who turned out to make sure everyone got home safe and sound. Standing around in those conditions is not fun and each of them deserves respect for doing so. Congratulations to Gary Doyle who did the Run Director role for the first time, and did a splendid job, well done Gary. If you'd like to repay their efforts by allowing them to run by you volunteering, please contact us at goreyoffice@parkrun.com. All volunteer roles are really straight forward and we will give you all the training that you need.

We look forward to much improved weather conditions next week, we hope. See you all next Saturday.

We had resident photography back in action today after being on puddle duty last week, so there is a good selection of photographs on our facebook page.

It was a very cold and windy morning at Gorey Town Park this morning for the 56 participants and .15 volunteers who joined us for the first Gorey parkrun of 2018, including 9 first timers. It was great to see new faces, we hope to see you back again next week.

It was a very tight tussle between our first 3 men finishers who were shoulder to shoulder for most of the run. At the finish, there was only 11 seconds between the three of them. Great running Pat Foley, Mark Poole and Paul Lynch, very impressive running.

It was similarly close between the first 3 ladies home, with only 18 seconds separating the 3. Well done Anna Bushe, Suzanne Keane and Ciara Jones, superb running by all of you.

Everyone who took part said that the stiff, cold headwind on the back straight of the park made it a much tougher run than usual, or perhaps it was down to excessive festivities over the Christmas break. Despite the tough conditions, 5 people managed to record personal bests. Well done to everyone who took part and put in a huge effort in the very testing conditions. You should all be very proud of your efforts.

Spare a thought for our fine volunteers who were stood out in the baltic winds for an hour while making sure everyone got home safe and sound. I hope all you volunteers have defrosted and are nice and toasty warm. Thanks to each and every one of you for you efforts this morning. If you'd like to repay their efforts by allowing them to run by you volunteering, please contact us at goreyoffice@parkrun.com. All volunteer roles are really straight forward and we will give you all the training that you need.

We hope to see you all again next week, especially those who took part for the first time today. We are hoping for a boost in numbers next week with the start of Operation Transformation so there should be a great atmosphere. See you next Saturday.

Well done folks, great work by everyone. #loveparkrun

Due to heavy overnight rain, he had some flooding on the course this morning. Thanks to a bit of swift brushwork by some of our volunteer elves, enough water was cleared to allow the run to go ahead. However, due to the flooding, we had to redeploy our regular photographer to puddle watch duties, so we wont have any photos today.

We had a good crowd of 46 participants and 12 volunteers turned out on damp, breezy morning to take part in Gorey parkrun, including 11 first timers, it is always great to see new faces.

Running conditions were tricky, resulting in only 2 participants recording personal best times.

A big thanks to all our volunteers who did a great job this morning, with them there would be no parkrun.  Next week's volunteer roster is looking very sparse at the moment so if you, or non-running family members, can afford a couple of hour to help out, please let us know at goreyoffice@parkrun.com. All volunteer roles are very easy and straight forward, you will be told all that you need to know before hand and there are always other experienced volunteers to help you out if you run into problems. Volunteering may seem daunting, but it is really very simple and rewarding.

Next weekend sees the first Gorey parkrun of 2018. So time to brush the dust from your runners, retrieve your running gear from the back of the cupboard and start your New Year Resolution as you mean to go on. We look forward to seeing all our regular and new participants out at Gorey Town Park next Saturday.

Well done folks, great work by everyone. #loveparkrun

We had a bumper crowd of 54 participants and 14 volunteers turned out on fine, dry still morning to take part in Gorey parkrun, including 6 first timers. There was a fine array of festive clothing, ranging from santa hats to a fully dressed santa. Photos from today's event can be seen on our facebook page

Running conditions were perfect resulting in 11 participants recording personal best times.

Yesterday, it was looking doubtful that we would have a full compliment of volunteers, but in true Gorey parkrun fashion, you stepped up and filled the vacant positions. Our volunteers did a great job as ever, especially our first time volunteers.

Next weekend sees the very last Gorey parkrun of 2017 and it would be nice to see out the year with a bang. We look forward to seeing you all out at Gorey Town Park next Saturday.

Well done folks, great work by everyone. #loveparkrun

Gorey parkrun No.54 Run Report

30 participants and 13 volunteers turned out on a bitterly cold morning to take part in Gorey parkrun this morning, including 5 first timers. It was possible for us to go ahead thanks to Gorey Municipal Council who kindly gritted the footpaths of Gorey Town Park to prevent any frost from forming.

Despite the cold, running conditions were perfect. This was reflected in the results which saw 9 of the 30 participants record personal best times. I suspect that the cold spurred people on to get it done as quickly as possible so that they could get back into the warm.

Our volunteers did a great job as ever. At least those of us that ran were able to keep warm, but our poor volunteers were stood out in the cold for the best part of an hour. I hope you are having a well earned hot drink to warm up. Thanks to every one of you, I've said it before and I'll say it again, you truly are the life blood of parkrun.

Hopefully the weather gods will be smiling on us and we with have a lovely bright, sunny, warm morning for next weekend's Gorey parkrun and that we will see all of you out at Gorey Town Park.

Well done folks, great work by everyone. #loveparkrun

Christmas and New Year runs

In order to give our hard working volunteers a well earned rest, we have decided not to hold the extra parkrun events on Christmas day and New Year's day. We will however be holding our regular Saturday morning parkruns on 23rd and 30th December. We'd love to see you there for a festive parkrun.

Join Us

C’mon everybody where have you gone?? We had nearly 200 people at the start of Gorey parkrun. Now we have in and around 50ish. Don’t get me wrong. Parkrun is for one or more people. We treat everyone the same. With winter here it is much harder for people to get up and get out. But remember, getting out during the daylight hours is good for your mood and include exercise into the mix. Well it’s gotta be good. So see you Saturday?

Have a Gorey time this Hallowe’en

As it is the ghoulish hallowe’en time of year. Come and have a Gorey time with us. Prizes for the best costume. Will you get a Frankenstein PB or start your ghostly parkrun journey with us. Bring the kids along. Let’s make it a family day. We look forward to seeing you all.

Urgent appeal

Hi All,

I'm here appealing to our Gorey parkrun base. If you look at the volunteer roster for the next month it is empty. I know you don't want our parkrun to fail. So I'm asking you to take some responsibility for your parkrun, for your community and for your town. Please volunteer and please tell your friends about our parkrun. We need to spread the word about parkrun. parkrun is a great thing to do. So let's keep it going.
