Father Collins parkrun – number 226 – 11th January 2020

We gathered together for parkrun 226 under the watchful stewardship of Gaetan for his first run director stint of the decade. Gaetan welcomed everyone with enthusiasm and tourists and regulars were brought through the simple dos and don’ts of parkrun! Do smile and enjoy yourself… don’t forget your barcode! Do encourage everyone along the way and don’t forget we are all park users – Remember 5k is 5k whether you complete it in January often brings high numbers with people trying to kick start the New Year as they mean to go on. This week the numbers were no exception as 131 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 17 were first timers and 7 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 13 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 10 volunteers: Gaetan MEISTER • Rachel MARKEY • Fiona MCGINLEY • Neill HARPER • Guus LEEUW • Monika SULIK • Áine BENNETT • Martin LEONARD • Michelle RADFORD • Jacinta FRIZZIERO

We always welcome volunteers – all the jobs are easy to do and require very little training! There are some jobs that you can still run and volunteer. It is wonderful when we have new people step up to the plate and help out so please consider joining the high viz club and drop us an email or a Facebook message if you want your name in lights.

Well done to those 7 people who achieved the ever elusive PB:
1. James O'KANE
2. Rachel ENSOR
3. Alan LYNAM
4. Nilesh PALKARI
5. Deirdre HERNON
6. Nicholas LAWLESS
7. Nora FOX

This week’s aesthetically pleasing time of the week APTOTW goes to Maebh Monahan, one of our lovely run directors, who managed a 28 minute parkrun on the nose! Well done Maebh!
A nod to tourist extraordinaires Neill Harper and Karen Waring who joined us for their second last Dublin parkrun. Both feature on the most events in Ireland list having completed 49 different events – check out the table here: https://www.parkrun.ie/results/mostevents/ This particular run report writer has decided that this year I will tour once a month – so 12 new events! Although I might try and stock pile one or two tours as we all know too well how life can get in the way of the best laid plans…. That said start as you mean to go on so am heading to Belfast next weekend for a change of parkrun scene - Queens parkrun here I come…
