Father Collins parkrun – Event number 232 – 22nd February 2020

Father Collins parkrun - Event number 232 - 22nd February 2020

On a sunny but bitterly cold Saturday morning, 100 people ran, jogged and walked the course at Father Collins for parkrun number 232. This is a great turnout as the weather hasn’t been very pleasant the last couple of Saturdays but our numbers are still doing great so well done all.

7 of the participants were first timers so we hope that you will return very soon and a big well done to the 9 people who recorded new Personal Bests. There was also representatives of 14 different clubs who took part on the morning.

Each week, we are indebted to our volunteers who make it all happen for parkrun so a big thanks to our 11 volunteers: Feargal FITZPATRICK • Paddy RYAN • Austin KEEGAN • Witek LOCHOWSKI • Matthew TOBIN • Ide MULCAHY • Guus LEEUW • Sandra FOX • Martin LEONARD • Seetal KC • Oisin DE CONDUIN

Please remember that everyone can volunteer, and everyone should volunteer as its great fun and a great way to meet fellow parkrun people. And its not as difficult as some of you think, just ask some of the Run Directors!

The Aesthetically Pleasing Time of the Week goes to Lorraine Mackey who ran a personal best of 26:26 so well done on the personal best and the award.

Some of our Run Directors went travelling on a bit of parkrun tourism last Saturday as Rachel, Maebh and Matt headed to Tolka Valley parkrun for their 3rd birthday party and did their parkrun. Don’t forget everyone that there’s nine different parkruns within a 10k distance of Father Collins parkrun and all you need to do is to bring your running gear and of course your barcode.

Welcome to everyone who came to do parkrun with us including our visitor from Cabinteely. We’re sure there were more tourists in attendance, but they didn’t tell us!

Despite the windy weather, 19 people recorded new Personal Bests so well done to you all on achieving a new pb. Representatives of 15 different clubs took part as well.

Our aesthetically pleasing time of the week goes to Ugo Matrangolo with a time of 30:40 so well done on the time.

Father Collins parkrun – Event number 227 – 18th January 2020

Father Collins parkrun - Event number 227 - 18th January 2020

What a lovely sunny morning we had this week! It was a bit chilly but not too much. It was the perfect welcome to our parkwalk, which just started up again this week. You know, we always welcome all levels, and parkrun’s average finishing time keeps getting slower, which is a good thing, because it means we are welcoming more people that otherwise won’t be active.

In any case, this week the walkers were extra welcome as staying more active is a common New Year Resolution, and one we love to see people achieving.

We did have some milestones. Des Connolly made his 100th parkrun and it was both Pawel Kaim and Maureen McDonagh birthdays, and, as if it was intentional, they finished first and last as Maureen was a volunteer as one of our two tailwalkers.

Pawel came along with a few friends from the Polish Runners Club Ireland, so together with our parkwalk people, we made it to 150 people that ran, jogged and walked the course. Obviously not just the Polish Runners Club were there, there were 13 clubs in total, but they were the only ones to bring cake. Hint: if you want a mention to your running club, cake may help.

The course was a bit slippery on a few places because of frost, but we had a nice and safe parkrun; even with a slippery course, 17 people got Personal Bests.

Last but not least, we had 34 first timers, many of them from the parkwalk and we hope to see you all again!

As every week, we get to thank the 14 volunteers that made the event possible: Michael RUNNER • Matthew TOBIN • Sinead Margaret O'NEILL • Geraldine PRENDERGAST • Maureen MCDONAGH • Ita O'HANLON • Raul PORTALES • Celine O'CONNELL • Derek CLARKE • Mariana BELABBAS • Ting YU • Chloe LAWLESS • Oisin DE CONDUIN • Michelle RADFORD
