Run Report#76, 25th March 2017

It was a fabulous morning at Newbridge House with the sun shining and temperatures a little warmer than for the previous weeks. Thanks to all the volunteers. We really appreciated having a full roster and it's great when we welcome new volunteers as most seem to really enjoy doing it. If you would like to volunteer next week or for any parkrun please email us at or through our facebook page or sign up at one of the runs.
Congratulations to all 133 who completed the 5k and well done to the 35 of you who achieved a personal best. It was great to see we had lots of walkers this week and we welcome runners & walkers of all abilities.

Here are the first finisher results:

On Sunday 2nd April we will have a stand at the Donabate Community College Spring Fair from 2pm to 5pm. We will be there promoting parkrun so please come along and say hello.

Hope to see you all again next Saturday at 9.30 and don't forget your barcode.

Run Report#74, 11th March 2017

There was rain in the air as the pre-event team set up the course on Saturday morning. Maybe that was the reason for the lower than usual attendance of 118 or maybe some of you are camera shy and had heard the photographer from the Herald would be there. We were very grateful for the volunteers that arrived. Early in the week the roster had a lot of empty spots but many of you stepped up and made it all happen again. Here are 3 of our regular volunteers Pat Cussen and the two Patrick Phillips.

We rely on volunteers each week so would ask everyone to please volunteer on a regular basis. You can email or contact us through our facebook page or sign up at any of the events. Here are Laura and Gerry Clarke signing up for next Saturday.

We were delighted to welcome Mayor of Fingal Darragh Butler for the first stage of his 6 Fingal parkrun challenge. Over the coming months Darragh is encouraging his colleagues to also take part at Ardgillan, River Valley, Malahide, Porterstown and Hartstown parkruns to complete the Fingal 6. Here is Darragh after the run. I was happy to mind his Mayoral chains for him.

Run Report#72, 25th February 2017

What a nice way to start the a week end at Newbridge where we were pleased to have the 5th biggest attendance in the history of Donabate parkrun.
221 walkers, joggers and runners took part of the 72th edition of our favourite weekly event thanks to a huge group from Dinny Collins Fitness (pictured below) and also a group from St Pats Donabate Under 11 GAA.

The attendance was also boosted by a few visitors from Swords after the cancellation of the River Valley due the forested area blocked by a fallen tree.

A few more photos are available here

Congratulations to Deirdre Long who completed her 50th parkrun with us. It was her 12th parkrun in Donabate. Well done!
Saoirse KELLY from River valley parkrun ran her 10th parkrun in Donabate. Many thanks for visiting us and well done!

We would have loved to have a picture of you. Feel free to send one via email

Many thanks to all the volunteers who successfully made our local parkrun happen again. Everything went well including the finish token area where none of the tokens went missing which is remarkable considering the big attendance.
If you have a bit of spare time next week, we need your help again next week. You can contact us via our Facebook page or via email

Run Report#71, 18th February 2017

There was a great buzz around Newbridge House on Saturday morning. The temperature was a few degrees higher than that of recent weeks and the 170 participants were looking forward to their weekly parkrun. We welcomed 13 first timers and possibly quite a few more who hadn't brought a barcode. If you register and bring your barcode we can scan it at the end of the run and send you a result. As always we need to say a big thank you to our volunteers. There are lots of ways you can volunteer. Pre-event setup or Post-event closedown can be done as well as running. If you are one of the quicker runners then you could also carry out a finish line role such as barcode scanning or number checker after your run. We normally have 20 volunteer roles to fill each week so it really helps if everyone volunteers at least every 10 times that they run. If you can volunteer please get in touch by emailing or talk to the person with the volunteer sign up sheet on Saturday mornings.

One person who has done an amazing job over the duration of Operation Transformation is Erika Nevins. Erika took on the role of Tail-Runner / walker for the 6 weeks. This is a volunteer role in which you get to walk behind everyone else and give them encouragement. It also helps us because our marshals know when everyone has gone through their position on the course and we can start taking down the signs from those areas. We are aiming to have a tail walker every week so please let us know any week that you could do this. Erika is pictured below with this week's Run Director, Pat.

Patrick Moore became the first person to achieve the milestone of 50 parkruns having completed all of them at Donabate. Well done Patrick.

We hope you are enjoying the changes to the course. We had to move away from our previous finish line area due to the restoration of a croquet lawn at the side of the house. The new finish in front of the house means that the final 600 metres of the 5k are almost a straight run to the line. With 37 personal bests recorded on Saturday, quite a few of you must be 'enjoying' the long sprint home. A map of the new course with km markers is below.

First finisher results were as follows;
Male placings:
Patrick PHILLIPS (VM35-39) of Raheny Shamrock AC, was first over the line in 19:05 - 5th time in 43 appearances.
Aaron DOWNES (VM35-39) (Unattached) was second over the line in 19:24.
Pat CUSSEN (VM45-49) (Unattached) was third over the line in 19:33.

Female placings:
Catherine MULLARKEY (VW45-49) (Unattached) was first (29th overall) over the line in 23:34
Louise RICKARD (SW30-34) (Unattached) was second (33rd overall) over the line in 24:08
Ruth JACKSON (VW40-44) (Unattached) was third (37th overall) over the line in 24:56.

Finally, if you joined us at any stage during Operation Transformation or for any other reason we really hope you will continue to come to parkrun. Everyone is welcome whether you are a runner or walker of any speed. It's all about participating in your community event and having an enjoyable experience.

Run Report#69, 4th February 2017

We were discussing with a few parkrunners that in 2017 Saturday appears to be the only day of the week when ice has to be scraped off the car. This Saturday was no different and the volunteers were greatly appreciated again for carrying out their roles in the chilly conditions. Participation levels were high again with 197 completing the course with 35 making their debuts at Donabate including 16 doing their first ever parkrun. We were delighted you could all join us and hopefully for many of you parkrun has or will become a regular part of your weekend.
walkers 4th Feb
Our two Operation Transformation ambassadors were with us as usual doing a fabulous job. Avril Gilroy is our running ambassador and Erika Nevins our tail-walker. It's great to see them enthusiastically encouraging the runners and walkers around the course.
OT Avril
OT Erika

We must also thank our 3 pacers, Patrick Phillips, Yannick Chevalier and Evelyn Wilde who were instrumental in some of the 38 new personal bests that were recorded.

Many congratulations to one of our regular runners Nicole Chevalier who completed her 50th parkrun.
Nicole also volunteers at almost every parkrun and can usually be found sorting tokens at the end of each run. We reckon she has sorted at least 5,000 tokens so far. Nicole's 50 runs have all been at Donabate with the exception of 2 at the wonderfully named parkrun du Chateau de Pierre de Bresse in her native France.

Here are the first finisher results:
Male placings:
Nathan ANDERSON (VM35-39) of Balbriggan Roadrunners, was first over the line in 18:45
Laforgue TOM (JM15-17) (Unattached) was second over the line in 19:28
Matthew TOBIN (VM40-44) (Unattached) was third over the line in 19:54

Female placings:
Grace ANDERSON (JW11-14) of Balbriggan Roadrunners, was first (17th overall) over the line in 21:51
Kathy GILMORE (SW20-24) (Unattached) was second (28th overall) over the line in 23:03
Jackie REGAZZOLI (VW45-49) (Unattached) was third (30th overall) over the line in 23:23

Finally, as we mentioned on Saturday, we will have a change to the course from next week. The finish area has become 'out of bounds' to us as a Victorian Croquet lawn is being restored in that area. We were out with the measuring wheel this afternoon and have made a couple of alterations. The second u-turn will now be extended all the way to the white gate just prior to the Hearse Road pedestrian entrance and you will then have a long straight finish all the way to the white bench just before the gravel in front of the house. It will all be signposted with marshals in the key positions. If you are available to volunteer next week please get in touch on facebook or email to

Enjoy your running and walking
