Event #210 18 January 2020

Saturday, was a cold and frosty one at Castletown. It was my first time to do Run Director, and I hope that you were all happy with my Brief and introducing new bees. 295 people ran, jogged or walked at their own pace.

Its a rare things to manage to capture the first 3 man and women but we managed to do this this week. For an added bonus we have also got a photo of the first 4 legged finishers

54 of you recorded PBs and that was without the help of our pacers. 45 people came out on the cold morning to run their first Castletown parkrun, around 30 of these ran their first parkrun full stop.

It was the start of the parkwalk schedule which runs for the next five weeks.

We also had visitors from Oxford, Bristol and Brisbane. We also had visitors from Lucan but as most of the older parkrunners started here it is more like family coming to visit than tourists.

I hope that you enjoyed your welcome and Castletown parkrun

Remember that parkrun is a run not a race, Go at your own pace. But incase you didn’t know a study was carried out recently regarding parkrun across the countries that it operates in. It showed that more and more people are participating to improve their health and mental wellbeing. It is something that does work why not give it a try!

I enjoyed my first time as RD and I am looking forward to seeing you all again next time I am RD. parkrun cannot happen without volunteers. If you have not volunteered for a while, well then you should consider volunteering again.

We also had the oldest runner to complete Castletown parkrun. Derry Devine ran with us, Derry is in the 80-84 age group. Next time you are thinking you are too old for parkrun think about Derry.

This event was made possible by the following volunteers:  Sharon ASHMORE, Marc AUGUSTIN, Michael COMER, Derek CULLEN, Emma Louise CULLEN, Marian FAGAN, Maxwell KINSELLA, Hazel KINSELLA, Simon LANG, Rebecca LANG, Anne LANG, Kevin LAWLOR, Sandra MCLAUGHLIN, Jason MCLOUGHLIN, Karl MITCHELL, Brendan MOONEY, Wally MOORE, Sam MURPHY, Sara NOLAN, Kim O'LONE, John O'LONE, Philip REILLY, Philip SLATTERY
