Saturday morning gave us a cold, dry morning. This was a bonus as we were expecting a wet one. Friday night was particularly wet so although soggy underfoot we would stay dry at least.
We had 213 participants helped along by 23 volunteers. Well done to all of you. Of the runners, 19 were first timers and 23 recorded new personal bests. We had representatives from 13 different clubs.
Our 23 volunteers played a blinder as ever. Always encouraging and helpful to all concerned. Thank you for making everything go smoothly.
The weather has definitely turned into winter so we recommend if you are volunteering to wrap up as Castletown can be pretty cold and windy even if the sun is shining.
We thought our female record, held for over three years by Louise Reilly was about to be broken by our second person home, Ilona McElroy but it still stands. Not by much though, Ilona only missed it by 33 seconds.
The first three finishers were, Freddy Lampret 19.13
Ilona McElroy 19.52
Colm Fitzgerald 19.56
We had visitors from far and wide including a participant from Vienna on his first parkrun.
We also had Katelyn celebrating her 25th volunteer today. She was scanning your barcodes. She is one of our junior parkrunners and is always helping out. In fact in a couple of weeks she will be celebrating her 100th parkrun along with her sister who is also a junior. The first juniors to reach the 100 milestone at Castletown. Well done Katelyn.
We will see you all next week whether you are running, walking or volunteering. Don't forget we always need volunteers. All jobs are easy and training is given on Saturday morning at 9.00am. If you have done 10 runs or have never volunteered please try and put your name down for a job over the next few weeks. It also gives you an idea of what goes on behind the scenes.
Until next Saturday
