Castletown parkrun #195 – 15 years of parkrun

This week was the 15th birthday of parkrun. I am sure if the thirteen runners and five volunteers all those years ago could have seen into the future they would not have believed what they were seeing.

We had 182 participants today and thankfully the weather stayed dry for the morning. Nineteen were first timers and twenty one had new personal bests. We also had nineteen volunteers who as usual played a blinder and I would like to thank them all very much. Congratulations to our Gaisce volunteer Kevin Lawlor on his Junior cert results. He was handing you your finish token on Saturday.

Our top three men home were Michael Carton 18.51
Mel Hilliard 19.01
John Regan 19.03

The first three ladies home were Pauline Hilliard 22.22
Lisa Ryan 24.00
Sandra McLaughlin 24.18

The ladies always manage to evade the camera unfortunately.
Congratulations on your runs.

We also managed to catch Mary Kiernan to present her with her 100 cert from the previous week. Congratulations Mary.

So, well done to parkrun on fifteen incredible years and let us see where the next fifteen lead.

As you know we had problems with our results. In order to do results our watches and scanners must be uploaded to our parkrun laptop. The computer end of things takes over to correlate all the information within. If your barcode does not scan for any reason it is added to the others by manual input as well as any volunteers who put their hand up on the day. So the Results person has quite a job sometimes to get your results out for your email to drop in by lunchtime usually. When we have put our results in to HQ so have all the other parkruns in Ireland. Sometimes things go wrong with this process. We would ask you to be patient if things go slightly askew as usually it all goes swimmingly. Saturday was spent trying to remedy the fault by our volunteer results team. Please keep this in mind for the future. Results will be processed but sometimes we all have to wait a little longer. Thank you.

So onwards to next week when we get to have the best fun on our run in the park.  We are hoping that it will be a timed event, but at the moment we are rather short of volunteers.  Please get in touch if you can spare some time to help out this week.  Smoke signals, PM or email  Your community will be very grateful.

Your Run Director for Event #195.
