Saturday rolled around, yeay another parkrun day. The participants were slow to arrive, i fear the mid term break may have scared them away. Alas I was not let down as the closer it came to 9.30 the more people started to arrive.
The benefit of the volunteers arriving on time was highlighted on Saturday as one volunteer slept in and arrived late. We had to move the other volunteers around to ensure we could run a safe event. When we say volunteers should be there for 9 we mean it otherwise the event can end up starting late.
At 9.30 on the dot 246 runners set off. Just under 19 minutes after the start Ryan Van Haeften cross the line as the first finisher with Darragh McCarthy chasing him until the very end. Castletown regular Gregory McMahon making up the top 3.
Rachel O'Neil was the first lady over the line for the second time in two visits. Lisa Ryan was the second with Anke BROß completing the top 3 ladies. Anke was a little to fast for me so i only got a photo of the top 2 ladies.
32 first timers joined us for this weeks event and 43 people got personal bests, not a bad day at the office.
We also had the following milestones:
- Monique Stapleton joined the jr 10club
- Michael Comer joined the V25 club
- Gregory McMahon joined the 50 club
- Alan Scott joined the 100 club
Michael was the only one i caught for a photo.
The coming Saturday is a special day for two if not three reasons, we will be launching Park Walk at Castletown. This is an initiative aimed to get more people walking at parkrun. We love nothing more at parkrun then seeing the average finish time getting slower. It is a sign that parkrun is there to help any one who needs a hand. We will ensure the 285th finisher got a cheer as loud as the first finisher does.
We may also hit two massive milestones this Saturday.
We are likely to have the 5,000th unique runner to come to Castletown parkrun, we are only 38 people away. Go on encourage your friends to try out Castletown parkrun.
We may also have the 6,000th personal best as Castletown for that we are 52 away from that.
Until Saturday remember we don't have to parkrun we get to parkrun.
