Event number 153
25th May 2019
This morning we thanked Cork County Council for the 153rd time for allowing us the use of the Regional Park and for being so supportive of us over the past three years. On the 31st May Ballincollig becomes part of Cork City and the following day the Regional Park comes under the management of Cork City Council. We particularly want to thank Vincent Florish for his support with the parkrun - during the week posts and signage were installed for three running routes: the green route for the 5 km parkrun, the blue route for the Michael O'Donovan 3 km course and the orange route for the junior 2 km parkrun (which should be up and running in the coming months), a welcome legacy from Cork County Council. This should encourage people who want to train for Couch to 5k.
We have no doubt we will receive the same support from the City Council
The last Saturday of the month will be dedicated to Ballincollig 5k You Way, Move Against Cancer. This is a support group for people living with and beyond cancer in Cork who are being encouraged to get active by taking part in the parkrun and then going to O'Brien's Café in Tesco Shopping Centre to socialize. If you know someone who is living with or beyond cancer then why not encourage them and their families to take part in this initiative. There is more information on our Facebook page on how to register.
This week 382 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 50 were first timers and 73 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 27 different clubs took part.
