Dull but hot, hot, hot!!! Event No. 20

The beautiful blue skies of the past week were nowhere to be seen this morning but our runners still had a tough run as temperatures hadn't dropped! Despite the heat, 21 of our runners achieved a PB - well done to you all!
First across the line this morning was Ashton Farrell of Naas AC with a brilliant time of 17:43 followed by Aaron Browne of Lakeshore Striders in 17:57. Our first lady to complete the course this morning was Marie Keane with a great time of 21:44! Our first junior to finish this morning was Billy Kelly, who ran an amazing race and achieved a time of 24:25 - well done Billy, keep up the great work!

Unforeseen circumstances have scheduled an unplanned two week break for Naas parkrun - we will be back in action on Saturday August 16th! In the meantime however, why not try out some of our neighbouring parkruns - Waterstown Park, Tymon or Griffeen!

Event #18 – A Soft Day

A little bit of rain did nothing to dampen our parkrunners' spirits or energy levels this morning - 16 new PB's recorded and some very exciting finishes!
Feidhlim O'Dubhlaing was first across the finish line with a great time of 17:37 - a new PB, followed by Daniel Courtney. Aimee McGrath was our first lady today and also achieved a new PB. Jack Fitzgerald was our first junior across the line in a great time of 19:28.
It was lovely to see new faces again this week enjoying the course - well done to you all!
Thanks to Gerry for his great warm-up and inspiring pep talk about the joys of running in the rain - as always his warm-up was enjoyed by all!
Thanks to this week's volunteers - Cathy McVicker and her daughter Aida McNamee who did a great job taking photos this week and helping out at our water station!

Event # 17- Beautiful July Morning !

What a gorgeous morning it was for our parkrunners - it's such a beautiful sight to see all the colourful t-shirts running around the track with the blue sky as a backdrop! Well done to everyone getting up early on a Saturday morning to fit a run into their busy schedules.

It was great to welcome Ashton Farrell back to parkrun this week who was first to finish and also achieved a personal best with a great time of 16:53. Amy McGrath was our first female and first junior to cross the line today - great running! 14 of our runners recorded PB's this morning - a great performance by everyone!
We were thrilled to welcome Sally O'Regan, a parkrun tourist from Roundshaw Downs parkrun in the UK - this was Sally's 96th parkrun and said it was an enjoyable course!
Gerry of course was on hand this morning for a super warm-up and tips for our runners - a big thanks and thumbs up from us all! We'd like to thank this weeks volunteers Daniel Prone, Niamh O'Reilly and Cathy McVicker and we'd also like to wish Daniel the best of luck in his Triathlon in Athlone this afternoon! We hope all our parkrunners running in both Achill and Clontarf events today had a great run and we look forward to welcoming them back to the Racecourse next week!

Event #16 – New Faces

Despite a large number of our regular runners missing last Saturday due to other great running events happening around the locality - Kilcock 5k, Funlavin 5k/10k and the Phoenix Park 5 miler - we were still kept busy with lots of new runners that turned up at the Raceourse. It is great to witness Naas parkrun growing in popularity as word of mouth spreads and more and more of our community avail of this great free event!

Of course we couldn't mention Dunlavin 10k without congratulating Ann Fitzgerald - a regular parkrunner and volunteer - who came first in her age category last Sunday! A fantastic achievement - well done Ann from all of us in parkrun! Also a big congrats to David Keenan from Newbridge AC who holds our current course record - David came 1st in the Dunlavin 5k with an amazing time which we would love to see him repeat some Sat morning at parkrun ;)

First across the line this week in Naas parkrun was Bob Lawlor with a very impressive time of 19:00, our first lady to finish was Laura Humphrey with a new PB of 22:50 and our first junior across the line was Patrick Farmer. Patrick completed the 5k course in an amazing time of 21:14 - congratulations!
14 new PBs were recorded this week - well done to you all!

We were also joined by two parkrun tourists on Saturday - Grainne and Pete Stables from Bristol. This was Grainne's 55th parkrun! Thank you both for joining our event and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Ireland.

Action packed

Glorious blue skies and warm sunshine greeted our 84 parkrunners this week at Naas race course. Patrick Malone made a welcomed return to come in first over the line in 17.03. Abigail Dunne from Naas AC was our first lady home in 20.53 with our two super juniors Amy McGrath and Eabha Stewart following in second and third place.We were thrilled to have a parkrun visitor from Norwich, Simon Beckett run his 123rd parkrun in Naas. Congrats also to the Sweeney Joggers Andrew and Bernadette Sweeney who have now run over 10 parkruns. This week saw 28 new personal bests ,great running by everyone considering the heat. Many thanks to our wonderful volunteers this week Carmel Murray, Ann Fitzgerald and Anne Hughes. We would love to hear from more volunteers who might not want to run some Saturday and they can see how parkrun works behind the scenes. Contact us at naashelpers@parkrun.com to volunteer.

There was unfortunately a distraction off the track this week with one of our regular parkrunners falling ill. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the fast response of the local ambulance service and also to thank the wonderful staff at Naas A&E who looked after our parkrunner so well. The good news is that she was given the all clear and we hope to see her back with us soon when she makes a full recovery. A special thanks also to all our parkrunners who stopped to help and all who offered help. You are a very caring community.
Finally we hope to see you all this Wednesday at the parkrun Social BBQ evening at Naas race course. €20 gets you Admission,a Racecard and a BBQ meal. Great value and a chance to meet up with fellow parkrunners out of their running gear!

 

Perfect Running Conditions – Event #14

Our 87 runners enjoyed perfect running conditions at Naas Racecourse this morning! This was reflected in the high number of PB's this week - 48 in total, what an achievement! First across the line BREAKING THE COURSE RECORD was David Keenan from Newbridge AC with an amazing time of 16:19 - we'll be expecting lots of challengers for this time over the summer ;). Amy McGrath was our first lady across the line with a PB of 21:10. Our first two juniors across the line Mark Glynn and Jack Fitzgerald also recorded PB's this week - fantastic running guys.
Gerry Halton from Naas AC was on hand this morning for a great warm-up and some very helpful running tips for our all our parkrunners! Thanks a million Gerry and best of luck to you and all other Naas AC athletes taking place in the Kildare Masters taking place in Celbridge later today.

Naas parkrun reached a very important milestone this week - we now have over a thousand runners registered at our event - great accomplishment in such a short space of time! Keep spreading the word!

Event #13

Our first parkrun in June saw 97 runners hit Naas racecourse track on a humid summer morning. Trevor Mc Cormack of Portlaoise AC, making a first appearance at Naas parkrun, was first over the line in 17.52. Mark Glynn, our first junior home followed in 2nd place. Mark also came 3rd in the All - Ireland 800 metres last weekend. Well done Mark. Sharon Grant, also of Portlaoise AC, was our 1st lady home in 19.18. Sharon now holds the women's record. Great running Sharon. We hope to see you again soon. This week saw thirty runners record new PB's. A fantastic achievement by all.

Event #12 – Bank Holiday Scorchio

Wow - what a difference a week can make! Suncream & water were required rather than wet-gear and coffee! This week 94 runners kicked off their weekend in glorious sunshine - 34 of whom recorded PBs which is an amazing achievement in that heat!
Gerry Halton from Naas AC gave his usual brilliant warm-up with some very inspiring tips for our runners! We'd like to wish Gerry and all other Kildare athletes running in the Leinsters tomorrow the best of luck.
First across the line this morning was Aaron Browne from the Lakeshore Striders with a great time of 18:21, this was Aaron's first appearance and he tells us he will be returning with more Striders for training runs! Tracy Jennings was our first lady to cross the line this week and Jack Fitzgerald was our first junior home.
We'd like to wish all our parkrunners participating in the Mini Marathon on Monday the very best of luck - you have the training done, enjoy the day!

Hardcore Running – Event #11

Oh my God Naas parkrunners YOU ROCK! We couldn't believe the turnout this morning - horrendous rain & wind couldn't keep you away! 30 PBs - runners, you're all heading in ONE DIRECTION!! ;)

Our first man (plus buggy) to cross the line this morning was Stephen Makin, a parkrun tourist from Manchester, with 94 parkruns under his belt! Stephen and his daughter completed the run in 18:24, followed by Mark Glynn in 18:53 - who was our first junior to finish today. We would like to wish Mark the very best of luck from all in parkrun for the Leinsters next weekend - we know he'll do Kildare proud!
Congratulations to Tracy Jennings, our first lady to cross the line today! Not only did Tracy run a PB today, but she also broke the female course record by finishing in a time of 19:58 - well done Tracy!

We'd like to thank Gerry Halton from Naas Athletics Club for such a dynamic warm-up this morning, Gerry then went on to run the course and achieve a PB - good on you Gerry!

Event #10 – Summer’s finally arrived!

What a beautiful morning our 138 runners had at Naas parkrun this morning! How amazing did the Racecourse look with blue skies & bright colourful t-shirts running around the track?
Gerry Halton gave the runners a great warm-up before Eimear Hennessey, this week's Run Director, blew the start whistle! John Behan was our first runner across the line in 17:56, followed by Feidhlim O'Dubhlaing in 18:20 - a PB for Feidhlim! Mark Glynn was our first junior to finish this morning - he came in third position with a PB of 19:29 Tracy Jennings was our first lady across the line with a time of 20:18. There were 31 PB's in total this morning - a great achievement for our runners! Amy McGrath was our first female junior this morning to complete the 5k with a time of 22:28.
