Run report 17 May 2014 event #80

Another glorious day in Malahide castle. The Summer is finally here.

Well done to Daire Bermingham (Raheny Shamrock) who broke the course record in Malahide today, (and the parkrun Ireland record) with a time of 15:05. That was awesome running Daire. We're also pleased to welcome back Annette Kealy (also Raheny Shamrock) who was the first lady finisher. Well done to Annette too.

We tried out a new idea today, which was to call out runners times at the 2km mark. It looks like Damien's motivational shouts went down well. So we will probably do this again, whenever we have a volunteer willing to do it. The 2km mark is at the top of the (little) hill on the short lap, second time around.

Next week, we are going to try out something else new. Some other parkruns occasionally provide pacers, and Alice felt it was time we did it too. The idea here is that a couple of runners will run at a specific pace, aimed to finish at an exact time (eg 25 min, 30 min) and other runners can run alongside and hopefully finish at the same time, and just ahead of these targets. The pacers will be wearing or carrying something distinctive so you won't miss them. We hope to have pacers for 20, 25 and 30 mins. But, check out the facebook page during the week for more information.

Finally, as mentioned at the briefing, the latest 50 anniversaries are Anne Mulligan and Joe Campbell (VM70). Well done guys. We've stopped talking about the famous parkrun anniversary T-shirts. But, we won't forget anyone who has already reached an anniversary, when we do eventually get a sponsor for the shirts, which hopefully won't be too long away.

All the best, and see you next week!
