Event #160, 26th January 2019.

Birrrr, it was cold, but thankfully the weather forecast was very wrong which meant we stayed dry for the entire event.  Trying to read soggy paperwork after an event is very tough indeed, so we were delighted we didn't need to.

We hope you enjoyed 'hearing' from the new piece of parkrun equipment.  We now have a rechargeable megaphone .... yippeeeee!  Isn't it great that you can hear us from the carpark now?  We just need to get used to all the buttons and things that it can do, but it's definitely a welcome and valued new member to our core team.

Speaking of the car park, with our numbers a little on the high side for January we have needed a few extra marshals pre-event to ensure we get the most out of the car-park on a Saturday morning.  Along with the help of the amazing team of OPW ground staff, we have been working well to squeeze you all in.  We do need a little bit of help from all of you.  We really need you to arrive at parkrun well in advance of the brief at 9.20am.  Cars are still driving into Castletown after 9.30am which is holding up the start of the event, but also holds up the marshals from getting back to enjoy their own run.  Please, please (if you must bring a car), we do need you to car-pool and most definitely leave for parkrun much earlier than recently.  The current situation is rather unsafe for all.  Please work with us to ensure everyone gets to enjoy their parkrun.

This week we had 280 participants walk, run, jog or skip their way around Castletown parkrun.  26 were first-timers and 42 of you recorded new PB's.  Don't forget to give that PB bell a ring.  Sure why not give the bell a ring anyway!  We should all ring the bell ... it's another 5k in the bag.  Be proud of every event you clock up, you deserve to.

This weeks event was made possible by a massive 29 volunteers.  I'd like to say a special thank you to Brian Kiernan who was managing the team on the finish chute.  He was supposed to be resting as he had a race the following day, but did so much walking up and down the finish line it's a wonder he was able to walk at all the following day.  Brian also joined the v25 club on Saturday, but he kept that a bit quiet.  Congratulations Brian!!!!!

Thank you to all the volunteers for this week and every week!  We wouldn't have a parkrun without you.  If you are a little scared of volunteering and haven't volunteered before, it's so easy and a hell of a lot of fun.  We laughed so much last Saturday it was just brill!  I like to run, but I also like to volunteer... quite a lot.  Sometimes it's easier to volunteer than run... especially when the wind is sweeping around the park like it was last weekend.

We had two participants celebrate their 50th parkrun last weekend.  Martin Horan and Catherine Reilly.  Catherine wasn't as shy as Martin about her milestone, or should I say her family weren't!  She was well supported by her grandchildren, children and her husband Philip.  Catherine has ran all 50 parkruns at Castletown.  WOW!!!!!  To top off her day, it was her wedding anniversary.  Philip assured me that they might enjoy a beverage or two to celebrate.  Congrats to both of you.  Lets hope you have suitably recovered to enjoy next weeks parkrun.

Thank to all who are signed up to volunteer for the coming few weeks.  We do need everyone to take a turn, so drop us a line at castletownhelpers@parkrun.com.
